WELCOME - The Center for Eating Disorders

Carolyn Piver Dukarm M.D. is the founder and director of the Center for Eating Disorders, which is an outpatient treatment center that specializes in the overlap between disordered eating symptoms (such as compulsively overeating, unusual eating patterns and obsessive thoughts about food and body image) and attention problems (such as easy distractibility, difficulty maintaining focus, and impulsivity.)

The treatment approach incorporates Dr. Dukarm's discovery of the link between eating disorders and ADD and that treating the underlying ADD (which is often undiagnosed) frequently leads to a complete recovery from the eating disorder symptoms.

In her new book “Pieces of a Puzzle: The Link between Eating Disorders and ADD,” Dr. Dukarm explains this connection and provides a comprehensive plan for overcoming both of these disorders. Patients in the program are getting better quickly and are reporting that “it is like finding the missing piece of the puzzle.” They no longer are suffering from binge eating or obsessive thoughts about food and body image, and they can now finally pay attention to their lives!

L.K., a 21 year old college student wrote:

“Dr. Dukarm - when I came to see you a year ago, my life was simply in darkness, that's the only way I can describe it. I was out of control, so terribly unhappy inside, & simply disgusted with myself. For the first time in my life, I felt hopeless. I felt like, “This is it... this is my life... and nothing is ever going to change.” Then I came to see you. I still remember sitting in your office, bringing you up to speed on the past year of my life. I remember thinking it was pretty useless for me to be there because nothing was going to change anyways. I was beyond the point of help. Then, you told me about the medicine and you quite simply - changed my life. I will NEVER be able to thank you enough for all you've done for me.”
